Redefining Robust AAC

Lightning Rambles is dedicated to improving AAC users quality of life through high quality AAC research and projects, spearheading the Lightning Core project which aims to redefine how we as practitioners, clients, and caregivers view AAC and learn to demand more from it.

Our Story

Lightning Rambles started with Remiel Cooper's penchant for talking, and the fact that as a part time AAC user and as an SLP student they saw an inadequate number of words available to and support provided for AAC users. They saw a lack of AAC users voices centered, with the justification that it was too 'difficult' or AAC users were too cognitively impaired. Lightning Rambles seeks to challenge that narrative, uniting AAC users and non AAC users, uniting SLPs and community members. AAC is for everyone, and Lightning Rambles stands to exemplify that.

Our Vision

Lightning Rambles aims to update research and redefine modern AAC systems that center AAC users and AAC voices. It aims to unify AAC users and the community surrounding them, demanding that AAC users get their needs met and be treated as equal communication partners in society. It argues that AAC users know their communication needs best, and that communication partners and SLPs can be vital members to help amplify AAC users voices to communicate these needs.
