Professional Summary
Remiel Cooper has worked with a variety of youth, from birth to transitional ages. Most of their work has focused on disabled youth, primarily the Intellectually and Developmentally disabled community. They have also worked with typically developing youth and youth with extensive and complex support needs. The students and clients that they have worked with have had a variety of needs but can generally be described as having medium to high support needs. They have worked with clients who have had physically and emotionally expressive and unpredictable behaviors, ultimately believing that all of these youth are deserving of high quality support and aim to provide that. In addition, they continue to serve the queer summer camp they grew up attending. They attempt to visit for at least one month per summer and have been attending since they were fifteen years old- their tenth anniversary of attendance being in the summer of 2027. Many of the pictures on this site are taken from moments from camp, as that is when they are often at their most joyful. The majority of this work is volunteer based, and they are proud to have helped shape and redefine the camp's disability and accessibility training.

Remiel Cooper has served in a stipend capacity as a 1:1 aide and as a Counselor-in-Training Counselor in addition to a volunteer capacity as a Counselor. They also work on reshaping and redefining the disability and accessibility training.
Remiel Cooper was a Program Leader for an after school classroom which involved supporting Intellectually and Developmentally Disabled youth with gaining life skills, guiding social emotional growth, and teaching basic and instrumental activities of daily living.
Remiel Cooper was a Student Judge Panelist which meant that they critiqued independent films centered on disability to ensure disabled people’s views were centered.
Remiel Cooper was a Substitute Assistant Teacher which involved assisting students with additional support needs for individual success, working with children to build social, emotional, and life skills, and helping support student success in the classroom.

INTERESTS
Remiel Cooper's passions lie in disability studies and disability justice. They have interests that tie themself to many things from Minecraft, to cats, to other animals, to their queer identity, and beyond, but ultimately everything comes back to disability. As a multidisabled person, their disabilities impact everything that they do and furthermore every interaction they have with the world. Therefore, every interest of theirs is touched by disability and disability justice. Their experience with queer camp is defined by making it accessible to disabled campers. They connect to their favorite shows through disabled characters. Their favorite dishes are ways to cook accessibly. A disabled person is who they are at their heart and core and their interests reflect that.
